Auburn colors flourish in fall as the leaves asynchronously change colors from green to yellow, orange, gold, and red. At the same time, festivals abound and the prices of hotel accommodations are going down drastically. Which makes fall the perfect season for travel, especially in the US. Here are some of America's best cities for fall travel.
New York

Aside from the numerous events happening in New York in October, New York is a popular tourist destination during autumn because of the autumn colors yellow, orange, and red bursting at the numerous nature parks all over the city.
For one there is the Central Park. Visit The Lake near the Mid-Park from 71st to 78th Streets and marvel at the changing color of leaves from the trees surrounding the lake. Another great spot is at the Reservoir near the North End from 85th Street to 96th Street. Stroll around this massive body of water while glancing at the autumn leaves surrounding the reservoir flanked by the towering city skyscrapers.
Some of the other places you could visit in New York during autumn include the Bloomingdale Park and Greenbelt Nature Center in Staten Island, the New York Botanical Garden in Brox, and the Fort Tryon Park in Hudson Heights.
San Francisco

The fall season in San Francisco translates to music festivals. But there is more to San Francisco than the fun parties, a stroll at the Golden Gate Bridge, and the post-season Giants games. the city in fall has an abundance of opportunities to enjoy the fall colors by joining pumpkin and wine harvest at the Bay Area.
Enjoy picking pumpkins at the pumpkin patch. Some of the most popular places to enjoy this activity are at Clancy's Pumpkin Patch in 7th Avenue, the Speer Family Farm in Alameda, and the Perry Family Farm in Fremont. It's time to find your perfect pumpkin for the Halloween.
Meanwhile, if you head north of San Francisco, you can enjoy the harvest of the red varieties of grapes in the major wine-producing Napa and Sonoma Valleys. Hundreds of vineyards ranging from family-owned estates to industry wineries are busy harvesting Cabernet Sauvignon grapes.
Washington DC

For the more adventurous, the Rock Creek Park is the way to go in Washington DC during autumn as the colors throughout the park is fantastic. For those who prefer leisurely walks and monument hopping, the area around the National Mall the Memorial Parks are just as magnificent to behold. With fall bringing the perfect breeze, a tour around the park on bicycles is just the way to go.
Professional photographers and budding photo enthusiasts will spend hours photographing the colorful foliage framing the Washington Monument. And watch out for the San Francisco International Dragon Boat Festival.
Chicago

Chicago is another city gifted with several nature parks. This means more places to capture the changing colors.
Bordered by Chicago River in the west and the Lake Michigan on the east, the Lincoln Park is the best place for a family picture during fall. Kids can enjoy on the numerous playgrounds surrounded by red maple, ash, birch and elm trees. At Chicago Botanical Gardens, Japanese maples grow abundantly giving the area a mixture of green, red, and orange hues. On the other hand, a hike at the trails of woodland, wetland, and prairies at the Morton Arboretum marks the fall season highlight among the outdoor seekers in Chicago.
Orlando

Now that the kids are back in school, it's high time to give your inner child a chance to enjoy all of Disneyland rides. On repeat. For gastronomic experience, head to the Epcot International Food and Wine Festival to have a taste or international cuisines and wines.
For fall foliage, however, the Winter Park at the north has more than 70 parks teeming with autumn colors. Take a boat tour and cruise through the beautifully landscaped lakes and canals. For a bit of adventure, pack your backpacks and follow the numerous hiking trails of Orlando. You could take the Big Tree Park or the Seminole-Wekiva trails to Longwood, the Bear Creek Nature or the Black Hammock trails to Winter Springs, or the Split Oak Forest where a 200-year old oak tree was split down the middle but still managed to survive.
Salt Lake City

Salt Lake City is one of the best travel destinations in winter. But before the cold winds blow and while the tourists have just left, you can take advantage of the fall foliage in the city.
Take a 25-mile drive through the Emigration Canyon and Parley's Canyon for a magnificent display of fall colors. But if you decide to take your outdoor adventure a bit higher, choose among the many hiking trails around the city. Take the Desolation Lake or Lake Blanche trails to Big Cottonwood Canyon. Or the Mount Olympus Trailhead at the east side of Wasatch Boulevard.
Farmers markets continue throughout October. And as the prices continue to go low, it's the perfect time to stock up on pumpkins, apples, and ciders.
Boston

Is was said that you have never experienced fall if you haven't experienced it in Boston. The gorgeous maple leaves complimenting historic architecture make Boston the most popular destination from late September to early November. The red and gold foliage forming a canopy above the monuments along Commonwealth Avenue is a sight to behold in fall.
The Boston Common and Public Garden are two of the more popular destination for fall foliage in central Boston. With the trees turning colors at a slightly different time, the surrounding creates a spectacular show of colors in different shades.
