27 destinations to visit with great weather in September

Ahhh, September! My birthday month and also one of my favourite seasons to travel. Most destinations are packed during the summer season but September is the best time to travel to destinations with manageable crowds. Aside from the better weather, the lower travel costs are some enticing factors to plot your travels during this month.

Europe, in particular, slows down by the end of the summer. Budget flights open up while travel tours and hotel owners offer a lot of bargain prices for the last hurrah. In my opinion, September is the best time to go to Europe because of its perfect weather - not too hot, not too cold.

Other destinations include the Americas and Southeast Asia, which are also in the shoulder season. They are way cheaper than Europe and is considered the Mecca of budget travelers.

Hong Kong is a favourite. In fact, I already planned my travels there (going in a week!) and I'm really excited to change this Middle Eastern ambient that I am currently in. In this post, you will find not only my recommendations but other travel bloggers' as well. Read on, check personal opinions of the experts and plan your travels accordingly!

Let's start with my very own favourite, Hong Kong.

1. Hong Kong, China

If you've been to Hong Kong during summer, you will experience extreme heat that will lead to discomfort. I have lived in this city for a few months and I avoided going out. If I did go out, I take taxis (which cost a lot of money in Hong Kong) to be comfortable. I swear to you - summer season in Hong Kong is like feeling the heat of the oven.

However, September is curating a different story. Next week, I will be flying in and can't wait to feel the hot, humid with a little bit of rain. September in Hong Kong's average low and high temperatures are 26 °C (79 °F) and 30 °C (86 °F). You will get to enjoy walking around the city comfortably and taking public transportation will be possible. Get to enjoy the great outdoors (treks and beaches), do a lot of gastronomic escapades without having to eat while sweating, and freely party the night away refreshed. To further plan your travels, this 10,000-word Hong Kong City Guide can definitely help!

2. Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic

Who: Together with her husband and three children, Sharon Gourlay manages a family travel blog called Where's Sharon?, a blog dedicated to travel smarter, cheaper and better with kids. Her hope is that you will find her blog inspiring, useful and that it motivates you to get out there yourself whatever your family situation. It follows her familiy's experiences of travelling with kids – the good, the bad and the (hopefully not too) ugly! As well as lots of tips to help you have adventures.

Puerto Plata is the perfect place for a September break if you like hot and humid weather and want a beach destination. There’s often rain and storms at this time of year but they usually pass by quickly. The average temperatures are between 21 and 33 degrees. Puerto Plata itself is not that fascinating. There is a nice Malecon and a fort, but otherwise, you are going to want to head to the surrounding beach areas. If you are after a big resort, Costa Dorada can be a better place to head. If you want a town, Sosua and Cabarete both have gorgeous beaches and many shops and restaurants. I recommend basing yourself in one of these towns and visiting Puerto Plata on a half day trip. It’s easy to travel around this coastal area of the Dominican Republic. The local minivans are called guaguas and stop everywhere along the main highway.

3. Cagliari, Sardinia, Italy

Who: Claudia Tavani of My Adventures Across The World travel blog is from Cagliari (Sardinia) and she has a passion, rather obsession, for travelling. It started when she was a child (thanks to her parents who took her camping in Sardinia). She was less than a year old then, and later on took her on road trips around Italy and Europe. She loves the thrill of being on the road, of seeing new places, meeting new people, experiencing new cultures. For Claudia, traveling is all about learning about the history and culture of the places she visits, meeting the locals, experiencing their daily life.

Cagliari is the top destination to visit in September. The capital of Sardinia benefits of incredibly good weather in September, with days that are not nearly as hot as during the rest of the summer, yet hot enough to still enjoy all the best beaches in Sardinia. Cagliari is a fantastic city, rich in culture and history: scattered around the city there's various archeological sites such as the Roman theater; there's many beautiful churches and good museums; and the historic quarters (Villanova, Castello, La Marina and Stampace) are perfect for a walk. The city is located on the hills, which means that there are plenty of places to catch an incredible view and a gorgeous sunset. I particularly recommend the urban hike to Sella del Diavolo. It is an easy hike that offers incredible views over Poetto beach, Cagliari's urban beach.

4. Beirut, Lebanon

Who: Kamila Napora of My Wanderlust started traveling ever since she was a small girl. Her parents used to drag her around Poland first and then Europe. Each of Kami's summer was spent visiting mountains, the seaside, lakes, cities and so many other beautiful places. That gave her a serious travel bug that is getting worse and worse with time.

Beirut, Lebanon isn't often of the bucket lists. The country is considered dangerous and that scares away the majority of tourists. I had my huge concerns before visiting Lebanon too but it turned out there was nothing to worry about! I've spent a week in Beirut and had a blast! The city is huge and diverse so everyone will find something for themselves. For me Beirut was the city was a great, young vibe, numerous small galleries, amazing street art scene and lots of cafes to spend the time at. It was also the city of beautiful yet crumbling architecture and tragic history that remnants are still so visible. But the main reason for me to fall for Beirut was the food! It's already a very solid reason to go there as Lebanese food is one of the best in the world (and that's not the overstatement!). When you decide to visit Beirut be sure to stay at Gemmayze - the centrally located area that together with neighbouring Mar Mikhael are the coolest parts of the city! September seems like a perfect time to visit as the weather is sunny but not too hot anymore, should be just below 30C!

5. Budapest, Hungary

Who: Margherita and Nick are writers and photographers from Italy and Australia, long-term travellers and lovers of nature, wildlife and the outdoors. They met in the dusty corners of a London food market, one November day in 2004. Nick was in the UK on a working holiday visa, and Margherita was fulfilling her dream of living in London, the city she fell in love with as a child. Since then, they started traveling together all over the world - Cuba being their first date. They now keep a blog called The Crowded Planet.

September is the ideal month to visit Budapest. The weather is still warm, but not as hot as in July and August, making it pleasant to wander around and appreciate the unusual sights and activities that Budapest special - the thermal baths, amazing quirky parks like Memento and Margaret Island, and naturally the famous ruin bars! Many ruin bars are arranged around an internal courtyard which is usually part uncovered, so it’s a lot more comfortable to sit around enjoying a nice beer when it’s still warm in the evening, rather than in winter when it can be bitterly cold. On top of that, in September the tourists that visit Budapest in the middle of summer start to get progressively less and less, meaning you might actually have a chance to interact with locals. Some of the areas we like best in town include the VII district, the Jewish quarter of the city and now also centre of hipster life, and naturally you can’t miss walking (or cruising) along the Danube!

6. Beijing, China

Who: Barbara Wagner of Jet-Settera is a London-based luxury travel and lifestyle blogger. She left her country when she was 17 to conquer the World as a model. Since then, she has lived in seven countries and visited 68 countries.

The average temperature in Beijing is 20C in the September and around 15C in October. There are many things to do in China, especially in Beijing, so this city is an ideal destination for young tourists, who want to learn about Chinese empirical history. They can visit beautiful Chinese palaces, like the Forbidden City or the Summer Palace. Adventure lovers can hike the Chinese Great Wall. The Tiananmen Square is one of the largest squares in the World. The National Museum of Beijing is the most visited museum in the World. You can be one of the 7,5 million people, who visit this fabulous museum every year.

7. Lisbon, Portugal

Who: Claire Robinson of Zig Zag On Earth have moved around a lot and have lived from 1 month to 3 ½ years in places like Paris, Munich, Sydney, Singapore and the German Black Forest. Her favorite time is when she gets her holidays. She plans amazing adventures to spend time close to nature and admire the beauty of Earth.

Discovering Lisbon, the capital city of Portugal, is experiencing a unique cosmopolite atmosphere mixed with a long history. In September, summer crowds have left but the city is still effervescent. No time to get bored under the sun! You could enjoy the magnificent views from the Lisbon Castle or from any of the Seven Hills around which the city is built. Or you could get lost in the maze of the old Alfama district to listen to Fado music or travel back in history at the Belem Jeronimos monastery. Just go for a stroll with no particular destination, walk up an alley, get aboard a funicular and jump out at another station. Look at the Azulejos tiles and listen to the vibrations of Lisbon! And if you stay a bit longer, go explore further in the region: coastal cliffs, imperial palaces, Unesco sites, magnificent beaches and old medieval villages. There are also many day trips from Lisbon that you can do by yourself (self-drive) or through signing up with tours.

8. Honolulu, Hawai'i, USA

Who: Justine Cross writes about her round the world adventures as she discovers new places. Packed full of advice and pretty photography, with a few travel mistakes thrown in for good measure; she's on a mission to get more of you out there travelling through her blog Wanderer of the World.

Nicknamed the “Aloha State”, Hawaii is always welcoming to travellers, and this becomes particularly true when thinking about the weather. Honolulu is great for September travels with temperatures consistently in the high 20s (Celsius). Around Honolulu, there are many things to do to make the most of the good weather. There is of course Waikiki Beach, which is clean, a total suntrap and water temperatures can be as high as 27 degrees Celsius in September. I would also recommend visiting Byodo-In Temple in Kaneohe (30 minutes from Honolulu). This Buddhist Temple is stunning and a total zen place to come to, allowing you to feed birds, explore the temple and spot turtles in the surrounding koi pond. A trip to Pearl Harbor to pay your respects should never be too far behind you as well. And if spotting filming locations is high on your priority list, I’d recommend visiting Halona Beach Cove. This beach has seen many large filming sets including Lost and Pirates of the Caribbean.

9. Barcelona, Spain

Who: Gábor Kovács of Surfing The Planet is from a Hungary, a small country in Central Europe. Since he was young, he’s always been attracted by things far from his country, distant from his own world. He started to dream about living in foreign countries and travelling to many places. As a researcher by profession, he chose his vocation according to his job’s objectives, as this is a profession which permits quite a lot of traveling.

Barcelona is one of those cities that get really crowded summer, in spite of the fact that other months like September are much better time to visit. Temperatures are milder, the sea is still really warm, and if you feel adventurous, September is still a great month to do some hiking in the Pyrenees Mountains nearby. Amongst the best places to visit in Barcelona in September, you can focus on the green areas of the city. You can climb up to the Montjuic Castle and visit the beautiful gardens around. The Tibidabo Mountain is also a great spot to enjoy the breathtaking view of Barcelona from above. And of course, September is still perfect time to enjoy the city beaches. Although beaches are less busy then, we still recommend you to go to those further from the city center like Nou Marbella Beach near the Forum area.

10. Dahab, Egypt

Who: Girls That Scuba founder Sarah Richard is a full-time digital nomad, divemaster and travel blogger, after she worked on a Liveaboard in Micronesia and was the only female diver on the staff. Counting the amount of female divers she knew on one hand she decided to stop moaning about her lack of female dive buddies and went about trying to find more. What started as a way for her to make new friends, it quickly became clear that she wasn't the only one on the search, and Girls that Scuba became the largest online community of female divers after only 5 months of starting the humble Facebook page.

September is quite possibly Egypt’s hottest month - so don’t come here looking for that ‘winter sun’, this marvellous country is still very much into its summer. Temperatures can soar up to 45c, which is why Dahab should be your go-to shelter. Nestled between the Red Sea and the Sinai desert, you are perfectly protected by the mountains and the sea-breeze to be really enjoying that September sun! This hippies paradise will give you all your holiday essentials; beaches, scuba diving in the Red Sea, seaside cafe and restaurants, beer no watches, no time, no worries.

11. Prague, Czech Republic

Who: Parampara and Parichay of Awara Diaries are travel writers, planners and filmmakers from India. Instead of getting into the corporate ways of life, both Parampara and Parichay decided to put their ideas to good use and took up creative entrepreneurship. Parampara writes and consults for marketing movies in India, Parichay make the travel dreams possible by planning customised trips for all budgets. Currently, the duo has come up with World Culture Network, a travel and culture based web channel that aims at creating and sharing content from across the globe, making people aware and culturally sensitive.

The Czech capital Prague, is undoubtedly one of the best summer destinations in Europe. However, the best time to visit Prague is in August- September due to clear skies, pleasant weather and long days that go on for up to 14hours. The Czech capital offers some great architecture, rich history, great food and some of the best nightlife options in Europe, making it a very tourist friendly city. The best part about visiting Prague in September is that there are lesser tourists’ due to the end of summer holidays in Europe. This means, you can expect to explore the city with added convenience. Additionally, Prague is one of the best cities to walk around with parks, open cafés and many outdoor activities to explore. Here are some of the top things to do in Prague for 72 hours.

12. Miyajima, Japan

Who: Marie-Carmen Infantes Hughes of Orient Excess spent most of her life hoping to get out of France and travel the world. She came from a Spanish family that moved to France. While most of her family dreamed of their roots in Andalusia, she was dreaming of the other side of the world. She left a life of stress in Europe for a simple, lovely life in Asia.

Fancy temperatures of 30°C or more, a touch of Edo time and stepping into a foodie heaven? Then look no further and get to the island of Miyajima in Japan. Located South of the country, near Hiroshima, this island is famous for its impressive Tori gate floating in the ocean. Equally beautiful during high and low tide, it has been called one of Japan's “Three Views” for good reasons. Activities are many: you could hike to the top of the island, visit Itsukishima shrine (a Unesco site) or simply relax, a local brew in hand on the beaches surrounding the island. The little town of Miyajima has kept a very traditional architecture, and the streets are filled with some of the best local food you can find. Be careful though, the deer roaming the island might try to take it from you, those friendly creatures have made Miyajima their home.

13. Fez, Morocco

Photo: @agoodkeensavage / Pixabay

Who: Carolin Pilligrath is originally from Germany but today travelling the world for a living. Since becoming a nomad three years ago, she has called many places her home. She works entirely location independent as a digital marketing specialist and running Breathing Travel, a blog for eternal traveller souls and adventurous wanderers.

Fez, often referred to as the cultural capital of Morocco, and rightly so, because the things you find while wandering the old Medina are not only ancient but stunning and surprising: from centuries of architecture to the tanneries where clothes and fabrics are colourfully dyed to the bustling markets all throughout. And of course you cannot miss Bab Boujaloud, one of the main entrances also called the "blue door“ which is leading into the old medina! September is a wonderful time to visit as it’s still hot at around 30 degrees in the day time but the main heat wave of July and August have passed. From here it’s also a nice train ride out to Asilah, one of my favorite coastal towns of Morocco.

14. Alice Springs, Australia

Who: Apart from visiting Yourambulla Caves in South Australia’s Flinders Ranges, Marion Halliday of Red Nomad Oz watched cane toad racing, dodged deadly snakes and been bitten by a wombat. She's been seen on beautiful beaches, incredible islands, in the remote outback, next to lots of Aussie ‘Big Things’, in magnificent world-heritage wilderness – and in an unbelieveable number of bakeries.

The weather's warmed up, the tourists have left and the flies haven't yet moved in for the summer. September is awesome in Alice Springs, gateway to Uluru. But there are a LOT more Central Australian attractions in and around Alice Springs. By day, enjoy the clear skies and average high of 27.2°C outdoors. Breakfast in a Todd Mall café, then hit the gorges, swimming holes and hiking trails of the MacDonnell Ranges or rocky Rainbow Valley. Check out the local wildlife at the Kangaroo Sanctuary, Reptile Park or Desert Park. Visit the Telegraph Station, find an Indigenous art souvenir or hike to the Olive Pink Botanic Gardens lookout. By night, it'll cool down to 10.3°C on average. After sunset on a camel tour or from Anzac Hill, hit the night market, then dine at a restaurant or tavern. Move on to the Starlight Theatre's Didgeridoo Show Outback Experience, Lasseters Casino nightclub, or strut your stuff worldwide via the Bojangles live web cam. Get there for the Henley-on-Todd regatta's sailing and rowing in a DRY riverbed on the last Sunday in August, then stay for the Desert Festival and Bush Band Bash. But don't miss September in Alice Springs!

15. Ohrid, Macedonia

Who: Leah Smileski and her family are off on a quest to fulfill their ultimate Kid Bucket List. From shearing sheep to threading tobacco, climbing ancient forts and snorkeling reefs, they're adventures are captured between school and work! If only they could adopt us!!

Ohrid is an untapped holiday spot that is not only super cheap, but provides the perfect escape from the heat. Often referred to as the Jerusalem of the Balkans, this UNESCO city has the achievement of offering both amazing sites of historical significance and an amazing natural beauty. September is the perfect time to visit with the tourist season winding down considerably as summer departs, but still offering a gorgeous goldilocks climate of around 25 degrees celcius (not too hot, not too cold) and a plethora of activities to do. In Ohrid you can explore both ancient and medieval history, dive a bronze age archaeological site at the Bay of Bones, book yourself a relaxing cruise on Lake Ohrid or take a swim. Must sees are Sveti Naum and the Bay of Bones south of the city; the Ancient Theatre and Samuel’s Fortress; and at least one or two of the some 365 churches reputed to be in the city.

16. Lombok, Indonesia

Melissa specializes in finding great deals, discovering new tips, and ensuring you get great value for money

With its undeveloped, turquoise beaches, fringed with coconut palms, lush tropical mountains and some of the clearest water you have ever seen, Lombok is stunning! During the month of September, you can expect warm weather with temperatures ranging from the mid-20s to mid-30s and rainfall at its lowest. The main activities in Lombok revolve around the gorgeous beaches, islands and waterfalls. The best beaches to explore are Kuta, Tanjung Ann, Mawun and Selong Belanak Beach, whilst the most popular waterfalls are Tiu Kelep and Sendang Gile. A must do in Lombok is to get off the mainland and explore it’s gorgeous islands. For those who love to party spend some time at Gili Trawangan and for the most amazing snorkeling check out Gili Nanggu. For the adventure outdoor types, join a 2 or 3-day trekking tour of Mount Rinjani for spectacular views of the volcano crater lake.

17. Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina

Who: Evan Kristine Palogan is a cook by profession who has a keen interest towards Scandinavian cuisine and fusion. She decided to set up her blog, Pretty Wild World to be a space for her to practice her skills on writing/storytelling, graphic design and staged food photography. She also has a few but broad interest when it comes to traveling and cuisine which has started assumably even before she knew it. Evan's favourite food are kimchi and noodles.

Sometime last year, around September, I was searching for last-minute flights that would take me from Helsinki to the Balkans without breaking the bank and was lucky enough to find a reasonably priced one-way ticket to Sarajevo, the first leg of my two weeks Balkan backpacking trip. Coming from Finland, the weather was perfect – it wasn't too hot, yet the autumn chill is starting to creep in thus making it the ideal weather for anyone who doesn't like extreme heat! The best part? The peak season was slowing down. Therefore, the streets weren't filled with tourists! If I remember correctly, the temperature during the day was somewhere around 25°C and about 19°C in the evenings. I don't know if I just got lucky, but Sarajevo made me realize how little I know about the Balkan areas and how I long to revisit once more to know about their history and culture that immensely intrigued me during my short visit. I was so naive at first to even think I could just wing all the things to do in Sarajevo without doing any pre-travel research! I was so wrong; there were so many interesting things that I felt the need to see everything for such a short time. If I would recommend one place in Europe people should see, it has to be Bosnia and its surrounding countries as they are mostly underrated and are often overlooked by travel enthusiasts.

18. Annapurna Circuit, Nepal

Who: Mike Still started blogging soon after he accepted a job to teach overseas with the goal of following his adventures. He spent his first 5 years after college in New Jersey as an elementary teacher, special ed teacher and fencing coach. He's been fortunate enough to take many trips and love to detail his journeys with photographs. All these are documented in Mike's travel blog, Live Travel Teach.

September is the end of the monsoon season and the perfect time for your trip to Nepal. While you’re at it make sure you trek the Annapurna Circuit because the mountain views will be the best they’ve been in months! This isn’t your typically “fall” destination so don’t expect the foliage to change colors but most days will offer blue clear skies with white caped mountains. Plus you you won’t have all the tourists that come in when it’s high season. You should still expect some precipitation but up high in the mountains that means snow and a beautiful white blanket over the trail for the yaks to wander through. The temperatures down in the valley will be at a perfect low 20’s C while the mountains get below freezing but not unbearably cold like it gets in the winter. Whether you head to the Annapurna Circuit, Everest Basecamp or any of the other amazing hikes and jungles you are sure to love Nepal in September!

19. Dubrovnik, Croatia

Who: Migrating Miss Sonja Bolger is all about travel and moving countries to make it happen. 40 places seen and 6 homes later, she's not slowing down. Travel is her first love, followed closely by coffee and cake. Her first task in a new place usually involves cafe hunting! Current days are spent blogging, freelancing, dreaming about future travels and juggling far too many open tabs on her internet browser.

One of the best things to do in Dubrovnik is swimming just outside the city walls, and you’ll still be able to do this during September. Enjoy a cocktail or beer at one of the bars you can access through gates in the city walls and then jump into the unbelievably blue Mediterranean to cool off. This is one of the best times to visit Dubrovnik, as the warm summer weather continues with temperatures only dropping to an average of 20 by the end of the month. Although it’s still a popular European destination, and growing ever-more popular thanks to Game of Thrones, there will be fewer people than during the height of the summer. If you only have one day in Dubrovnik, then the main thing you should do is walk the city walls for amazing views over the city, and for a panoramic view back to the Old Town climb up the nearby Fort Lovrijenac with the same ticket for free!

20. San Francisco, California

Who: Kristen Furtado of Travel and Treats' love for travel really kicked into gear after studying abroad in Spain at age 20. Since then, she has visited 21 countries (and counting!) She loves the entire process of planning a new trip—finding the best deals on flights and lodging, scoping out great places to eat, and figuring out what the must-see sights are in a new city.

Just when summer is coming to an end in most places, it’s just getting started in San Francisco, California. September and October tend to be the city’s warmest months of the year with the sunniest days in the 70s, while the traditional summer months are often buried in thick white fog. There are so many things to do in San Francisco, but when the weather is warm, San Franciscans are sure to take advantage of it and get outside. Dolores Park, Golden Gate Park, and Alamo Square are three of the most popular spots on a sunny day in the city. Grab a blanket, drinks, and snacks, then find a spot on the grass and hang out with friends until the sun starts to go down. If you prefer to be near water, Baker Beach and Ocean Beach are two favorites options. Baker Beach offers stunning views of the bay and the Golden Gate Bridge, while Ocean Beach is on the Pacific Ocean side and is especially popular amongst surfers. Both beach areas are great for biking, running and hiking.

21. Tbilisi, Georgia

Who: In 2014, Johann Kuruvilla of Escaping Life travel blog decided he wanted to travel for a bit every year and explore the world. The following year, he packed some bags and left for a holiday within his means. He travelled to the mystical North-East of India and it sparked a chain of positive changes in his life. It gave him a different perspective of the world and its people. He returned home refreshed, rejuvenated and wanted to do it again. Slowly, he picked up backpacking, hiking, trekking, mountaineering, photography, long distance running, reading and now writing as his new hobbies and rediscovered himself.

Georgia is small country located at the crossroads of Asia and Europe. And what makes it really unique is the fusion of cultures and there no better place to start with than it’s capital Tbilisi. The city almost 5 millennia old, is a charming concoction of the old and the new. Soviet memories have faded away with brand new cafes, restaurants and modern architecture all around the city. The narrow cobbled streets of the old town still bring back memories of an era where Georgia was at the centre of it. Here are some of my recommended places to visit in Tbilisi:

  • Rustaveli: The cultural heart of Tbilisi. Streets filled with travelers, and some old gothic buildings.
  • The Bridge of Peace: This iconic bridge crosses over the Mtkvari River.
  • Narikala Fortress: Catch the Tbilisi ropeway and get to the Narikala Fortress overlooking the entire city.

Summer is the best time to visit Tbilisi, between May and September but winters are beautiful too.

22. Livingstone, Zambia

Who: Amanda and Brian are corporate climbers by day committed to enjoying life outside the office. They work hard so they can afford the luxuries of adventure & romance outside the office. In their travel blog Eat Work Travel, They will show you tips on how to maximize your vacation days and make the most of your time outside the office.

When picking a destination for September travels Livingstone, Zambia must be on your list for one reason: Devil’s Pool. The neighboring country, Zimbabwe is a popular destination for viewing one of the seven wonders, Victoria Falls. While Zimbabwe offers great views of the falls, the source is actually the Zambezi River from Zambia. During the months of mid-August to January, the water levels are a bit lower allowing for an exhilarating swim to the edge of the falls. Since September is on the front end of the “low tide” range, the water is still quite powerful and the swim is one of the most adrenaline pumping activites we have ever experienced. You can reach Devil’s Pool with a quick boat ride from the Royal Livingstone Hotel. Upon arrival to Livingstone Island, there will be a short tour followed by a swim to Devil’s Pool. After an exhilarating jump into the spinning waters of Devil’s Pool, you are able to lean over the edge of the falls. As the water rushed past, we were amazed at the steep drop to the bottom of the falls. After this heart pumping experience concludes, there is a nice picnic and drinks served near the river’s edge. September is in the optimal viewing period with an average temperature of 75 degrees F, so don’t miss the opportunity to experience this death defying activity at Victoria Falls Zambia!

23. Rome, Italy

Photo: @valtercirillo / Pixabay

Who: Angela Corrias is a freelance journalist, blogger, and photographer who travels and works between Italy and Afghanistan with her husband. Her work appeared in different publications around the world such as Al Jazeera, Forbes Travel Guide, Global Times and Diplomatic Observer. She is one half of travel blogs Chasing The Unexpected and Rome Actually that she regularly updates with her husband.

Summer has just ended, crowds are less overwhelming and, most of all, the sultry days are gone: it's September and it's a great month to visit Rome. With an average temperature ranging between 18 and 25 degrees Celsius, September marks the beginning of a new season not only weather-wise but also for its events, activities, concerts, and theater plays. The city comes back to life after August's torpidity and it's much more pleasant to get lost in its streets and alleys without having to stop every five minutes to refresh at the nearest bar or fountain. September in Rome is also the season of new and old exhibitions, meaning you can enjoy the summer exhibitions for still a couple of days without the August crowds and also the new art shows displaying Italian and international painters, sculptors and photographers. One of the great places to be in Rome in September is its stunning parks. From Villa Borghese to Villa Pamphili, from Villa Celimontana to the huge Villa Ada, here you can enjoy the greenery, the relax from Rome's resumed, legendary traffic, the historical buildings, and the events organized in the open-air, which range from live concerts and comedy shows, to open cinema, yoga festivals, and sport competitions. There are many things to do in Rome even if it's mostly focused on the Vatican and some religious landmarks!

24. Seattle, Washington, USA

Who: Tracie Howe is a world traveler and adventure seeker. Her 20's were spent fulfilling her wanderlust - swimming with dolphins, spending the night in the Sahara Desert, relaxing in the Blue Lagoon, exploring the great pyramids, and snorkeling the Great Barrier Reef. She even once showered with a spider the size of her hand! During her travels, she saw a great many interesting things and luckily her camera was always close at hand. It was during these adventures that she discovered my passion for documenting the natural beauty and curious happenings around me in her travel blog, Tracie Travels.

Contrary to popular belief, it does not rain all the time in Seattle. Seattle summers are warm and dry and, frankly, close to perfect. The days are long, the skies are clear, and the beautiful city sparkles in all its summer glory! Summer here starts late and ends late, making September an ideal month to visit. Average September highs in Seattle are a pleasant 21C, which means people are often found outside actively enjoying the sunshine. Seattle boasts several large bodies of water, so stand-up paddle boarding, kayaking, sailing, and even scuba diving are popular here, particularly in the warmer months. While the surrounding mountain ranges provide opportunities for hiking, climbing, and mountain biking, these activities are also common within the city. Additionally, there are plenty of tourist attractions and viewpoints to choose from that don't require too much activity. Visiting the Seattle waterfront, Pike Place Market, and the Space Needle are all excellent ways to explore Seattle on a pleasant September day.

Who: Natasha Alden of The World Pursuit grew up Michigan. As a child, she went to many family vacations, but never truly left the country. The wanderlust started when she studied abroad in Australia. She didn’t know this experience would change her life. Upon return, she vowed that after college, she would take a backpacking trip around the world to celebrate. After a quick stint in NYC, she realized the wanderlust disease could not be cured. So as the story goes she quit her job, sold her belongings, and left for an indefinite life of travel.

A few years ago when we were traveling around Northern Europe, it started to get very cold. Then the snow hit and we knew we had to high tail it south. But where? That's when we found a cheap flight to Paphos, Cyprus and thought what the heck? This decision could not have been better. Being in the Mediterranean Cyprus seas sunshine almost every day of the year with average temperatures in September around 80 F. The beaches here are absolutely beautiful and we spend every day in late September (and even up until Halloween) enjoying the sunshine, clear beautiful water, and amazing heart healthy food! The best part is just outside of Paphos lies a few of the best beaches in Cyprus to enjoy fall from.

Who: Jo Ramani is a passionate globetrotter, wildlife enthusiast, thrill seeker and writer. She loves to explore new places and inspire others to travel. She likes to travel far and wide (well, Africa counts, right?) and then come back to her blog, Wander With Jo to share her escapades.

Kuching is a city nestled in the Bornean rainforests, where temperatures are fairly constant throughout the year, ranging from 23- 32 degrees. So, basically any season without a rough downpour is considered ideal for visiting Kuching city. Since Apr - Sep are drier months, it is said to be a great time to pay this cat city a visit. There is lots to do in this town, with all sorts of landscapes from beaches to jungles. The city itself has a lovely pub/ cafe culture and the best part would be to partake in some responsible tourism. I would highly recommend volunteering at the MonkeeBar where part proceeds go towards Orangutan conservation. This can easily be incorporated in your travels plus you get 3 days off per week to explore in the heart of Sarawak. Having spent around 2 months in Kuching, I can safely say this is a destination for everyone and way cheaper (and interesting) than western Malaysia. Just to give you an idea, I have complied this mega list of 30 amazing things to do in Kuching.

27. Montreal, Canada

Who: Amélie Gagne is a solo vegan world traveler with a knack for healthy living. Her blog, Mostly Amelie is about her inner as my outer journey.

There's no better time than Fall to visit Montreal, Canada. The hoards of tourists are now gone, the kids are back in school giving the city a much quieter tone, and the weather is still relatively warm - averaging 20 degrees Celcius in the day time. If you're lucky, the trees' foliage will have started to turn all shades of orange, yellow and red by now. It's the perfect time to roam the quieter streets of Old Montreal and the Plateau, and snap some architectural shots of the famous staircases. Have you noticed how the sun around this time of year starts to shine a warmer tone? Climb up Mount Royal Park at sunset to catch a glimpse of the city basking in this gloriously warm after-summer glow. And at the end of the day, when the weather will likely still be warm enough to sit at one of the many terraces that dot the city, do as the local hipsters do and grab a bite at one of the many vegan restaurants Montreal has.
