Stephanie’s blog is all about exploring the great outdoors, through her varying hikes, and delving deep into new and exciting cities, on the hunt for street art and great cafes. She’s covered much of Europe and the UK. But these past couple of years have been spent exploring her own backyard of Ontario, Canada and encouraging others to do the same. Stephanie started traveling solo four years ago, and it changed her life. She’s traveled solo across the USA as well as Europe and loves the freedom it affords her. Since traveling solo, she’s also switched to traveling with just a carry-on. Whether it’s for a week, three, or a couple of months, she loves the time and energy she saves, as well as the freedom carrying less brings her with just a carry-on, especially as a solo traveler.

What's usually in your carry-on?
As a predominantly carry-on traveler, all I’m carrying for my trip is in my carry-on. From my camera and tech gear to my scattering of clothing, I pack it all in my carry-on.
Tell us about the usual type of clothes you bring when traveling? Do you pick your wardrobe meticulously, plan a day by day outfit, etc.?
I always make sure to have a colour scheme while choosing my clothing for a trip. Most times, it’s a navy blue, white, and orange variation. Because I only travel with a carry-on, I need to make sure my pieces can mix and match, as well as wash and dry quickly.

What's the best packing tip anyone has given you? Who gave it?
That has to be pack three times. First, assemble all you ‘want’ to bring. Then, go through and cut that in half. And finally, try and cut out any other pieces you might not need.
What’s the best thing about packing light/heavy?
The best thing about packing light is the freedom to easily manage your baggage. And there’s less stress in deciding what to wear with less options.
How does your packing for a travel routine look like?
As a big-time planner, I like to start packing at least a month in advance for long trips, and a few days for shorter ones. This also helps me whittle down my pieces over time and also ensure I don’t forget anything.

How do you deal with "excess baggage" situations? Do you pay extra? Lessen your load?
I travel light, so I never pay for excess baggage fees. I always think those excess baggage fees can go towards more travel.
What's your best-kept packing secret?
My best-kept secret for packing is compression bags! You can maximize your space by filling the bags, releasing the air and BAM! It reduces the amount of space used, and they come in varying sizes.
