Packing tips from the Pros: Kimpoy Feliciano

Kimpoy Feliciano is a 24-year- old vlogger and online influencer from New Zealand (originally from the Philippines). His dream is to one-day travel the world after he finishes his Tourism Management degree. He’s travelled around New Zealand, Australia and his home country which he is really proud of - the Philippines. He considers himself as an adventurer because of his experiences in doing quite a few extreme activities like skydiving, bungy jumping, reverse bungee and challenge rafting!

When he travels, he likes packing light, so he never has to worry about airport check-ins and having complete control of his belongings. Shopping in destinations he visits is also one of the things he enjoys doing.

What's usually in your carry-on?

I usually just bring with me a few clothes, my laptop and camera, chargers and a dopp kit (it’s what they call a man’s body hygiene kit if you haven’t heard of it).

Tell us about the usual type of clothes you bring when travelling? Do you pick your wardrobe meticulously, plan a day by day outfit, etc.?

The type of clothes I bring with me when I travel depends on the destination I’m visiting. But since I normally visit cities, I bring casual clothes so I can take really nice photos to post on Instagram. I’m more of a lifestyle blogger than a nature traveller.

What's the best packing tip anyone has given you? Who gave it?

I’d say the best packing tip I can share would be; try to plan your outfits before your trip, so you don’t have to bring lots of clothes and decide which ones to wear when you arrive at your destination. Planning your OOTD can save you so much time and probably even a few dollars from airport check-ins.

How does your packing for a travel routine look like?

To be honest, I like packing a day before I leave for a trip. I hate opening my bags over and over again, to get stuff I didn’t realise I still needed. But I keep a list of the things I bring in each of my trips, in my phone’s notes to make sure I have everything I need.

How do you deal with "excess baggage" situations? Do you pay extra? Lessen your load?

This is funny because when I have a feeling that I will be exceeding the carry-on limit, I wear the heaviest clothes I have (like pants, leather jackets and shoes). This would normally save me a few KGs! Also, I would try to weigh my luggage and bags before leaving the house and heading to the airport to minimise the risk of paying extra.

What's your best-kept packing secret?

My best-kept packing secret would probably be; pick outfits that you can wear a couple of times! Plain t-shirts, black pants and bring some accessories (they can change every look without others noticing), shoes that can match your every outfit and shirts that you can wear again after a good hand-wash! Try to pack clothes that dry quickly! You need them!
