Packing Tips from the Pros: Cory Varga

Cory Varga is the travel blogger who created You Could Travel, a website dedicated to tips, out of ordinary experience, food and fun couple journeys. She started travelling in 2013 and been loving every second of it.

She is the sort of traveller who prefers packing light because she likes buying new things in a foreign country. Before travelling, she had a full-time job working for a software company. She met her husband in 2013 and created their own digital agency which gave them the freedom and independence they need to start travelling the world. They created their website in 2016 and been writing about their adventures ever since.

What's usually in your carry-on?

I pack almost everything in my carry-on. The most important are my shoes, clothes, makeup, camera, tripod and lenses.

Tell us about the usual type of clothes you bring when traveling.

I pick things I can cleverly combine to create more outfits. Same applies to shoes and accessories. I just really like variations.

What's the best packing tip anyone has given you? Who gave it?

My husband showed me how to make use of my space by rolling blouses and putting my rolled socks in my shoes.

What is the best thing about packing light?

Packing light means you get to go through border control quickly and efficiently. It also means it's easier to carry your backpack around town and still have everything readily available.

How does your packing for a travel routine look like?

I used to pack days before my travels. I loved the ceremony of packing haha. Nowadays I pack max 24 hours before my flight. If it's a short flight, I usually pack 3-4 hours before my flight.

How do you deal with "excess baggage" situations?

It depends. If it's a short flight, I just lessen my load. But last time I came back from Japan after a month there, I acquired a lot of stuff. I had no choice but to buy an extra luggage for myself. Sometimes it's just worth it.

What's your best-kept packing secret?

Don't worry about what you might forget at home or about the things you can't bring with you. Buy everything abroad. Not only you will get new things but get to experience local shampoos, conditioners and shower gels. Sometimes it's more fun than to have the same usual stuff all the time.
